BECOMING GOD’S MAN

Romans 8:28-29 (NASB)
28  And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.
29  For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son…

Matthew 20:26-28 (NASB)
26  Whoever wishes to become great among you shall be your servant,
27  and whoever wishes to be first among you shall be your slave;
28  just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”

1. To become God’s man you must become God’s servant.

Philippians 2:5-9 (NASB)
5  Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus,
6  who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped,
7  but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men.
8  Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
9  For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name,

2. To become God’s servant you must remain intimately dependent upon God.

Jeremiah 18:1-6 (NIV)
1  This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD:
2  “Go down to the potter’s house, and there I will give you my message.”
3  So I went down to the potter’s house, and I saw him working at the wheel.
4  But the pot he was shaping from the clay was marred in his hands; so the potter formed it into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him.
5  Then the word of the LORD came to me:
6  “O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter does?” declares the LORD. “Like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand, O house of Israel.

John 15:5 (NASB)
5  I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.

John 15:4 (NASB)
4  Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me.

John 15:7 (NASB)
7  If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.

Luke 12:15 (NIV)
15  Then [Jesus] said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.”

John 10:10 (ESV)
10 I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.

Gabby Douglass, “Living for the glory of God is a win/win situation; when He gets all the glory, you get all the blessings.”

3. To remain God’s servant you must remember Who deserves all the glory.

Elijah – Kings chapter 18:15-39.

1 Kings 18:37-39 (NASB)
37  Answer me, O LORD, answer me, that this people may know that You, O LORD, are God, and that You have turned their heart back again.”
38  Then the fire of the LORD fell and consumed the burnt offering and the wood and the stones and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.
39  When all the people saw it, they fell on their faces; and they said, “The LORD, He is God; the LORD, He is God.”

Q – Are you, O man, living for the purpose of building and advancing your own earthly kingdom; or are you living for the kingdom of God?

2 Chronicles 16:9 (NASB)
9  For the eyes of the LORD move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His…”
