HALL OF FAME MOTHER!

Proverbs 11:16-17 (NIV)
16  A kindhearted woman gains respect, but ruthless men gain only wealth.
17  A kind man benefits himself, but a cruel man brings trouble on himself.

1. Be compassionate.

Colossians 3:12 (NIV)
12  Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion,

Philippians 2:4 (NIV)
4  Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.

2. Be encouraging.

12  Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with humility…

Ephesians 4:29 (NIV)
29  Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

3. Be gentle.

Colossians 3:12 (NIV)
12  Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with gentleness…

Proverbs 15:4 (NLT2)
4  Gentle words are a tree of life; a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit.

Garth Brooks said, “I love Keith Urban. He is one of those people who I could hang out with 24/7. Keith will always be truthful with you; but he does it in such a loving way that you always know it’s because he cares.”

John 1:17 (NIV)
17  grace [God’s kindness] and truth came through Jesus Christ.

Proverbs 27:6 (CEV)
6  You can trust a friend who corrects you, but kisses from an enemy are nothing but lies.

You are never persuasive when you’re abrasive!

In his book The Anger Trap – Dr. Les Carter explains that “A person’s otherwise legitimate message can be totally lost when communicated in harsh ways.”

Proverbs 11:17 (TLB)
17  Your own soul is nourished when you are kind; it is destroyed when you are cruel.

5. Be patient.

And Dr. Les Carter, in his book The Anger Trap says, “Pull back mentally for the purpose of deciding that you can be civil even when others are not. But when you use your anger to demean others, it’s a clear indication that you are not attuned to human dignity. But if you choose to address an anger-provoking situation with a spirit of fairness, you show that you have enough awareness of your own worth that you don’t need to build your worth at the other person’s expense. It becomes a win-win situation.”

1 Thessalonians 5:15-18 (NASB)
15  See that no one repays another with evil for evil, but always seek after that which is good for one another and for all people.
17  pray without ceasing;
18  for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Romans 12:21 (NASB)
21  Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Psalm 37:1-3 (NASB)
1 Do not fret because of evildoers, Be not envious toward wrongdoers.
3  Trust in the LORD and do good…

Psalm 37:7-9 (NASB)
7  Rest in the LORD and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who carries out wicked schemes.
8  Cease from anger and forsake wrath; Do not fret; it leads only to evildoing.
9  For evildoers will be cut off, But those who [are patient] wait for the LORD, they will inherit the land.

Psalm 119:9-12 (NASB)
9 How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping it according to Your word.
10  With all my heart I have sought You; Do not let me wander from Your commandments.
11  Your word I have treasured in my heart, That I may not sin against You.
12  Blessed are You, O LORD; Teach me Your statutes.
